Drum kit topper

Hiya!…..making an 8″ cake this morning..plainly decorated…but to have a 6″ cake board drum kit topper added…customer wants just to lift it off and cut cake easily….drum kit has 5 drums…all made from rice crispie rears so very light….do I need to dowel this or would it be ok to stick it on with a bit of Royal icing.

Thanks..and seasons greetings to all xx

Hi Mrscloudy1

Personally I would dowel even if it’s just four on clock face and one in the centre. If your cake is a pretty sturdy recipe it would probably be fine. Once the cake is filled and iced leave the icing to settle and then have a feel to see how strong the whole structure is. If the customer wants to lift the topper straight off it may be better to place it onto the cake as close to cutting as possible. It could be done at the venue.
Best wishes to you too.

Thank you…decided not to dowel…the cake is plenty sturdy enough to take the weight of the topper and customer happy just to lift on and off and not spoil the smooth cake underneath……..thanks for you advice…..a Jem as always! X
