I just wondered how everyone deals with this in order to show clients potential cakes when just starting and not having an album of photographs to show yet?

You could decorate several designs on dummy cakes and photograph them for a portfolio. They’re not particularly expensive but very durable so you can use them over again. If you’re lucky enough to have the room you could also have some decorated dummys to make a phyical display.
