Welcome to the Cake Decorators Q&A
Edible snowglobes
Has anyone had any success making edible snowglobes ?
Do you know how long they keep? I want to try for this year’s Christmas cake but not sure my skill levels are up to it.

Hi pixedell
The problem with clear gelatine bubbles is that they’re not always clear! Gelatine forms a lot of scum which causes horrible dark streaks if not removed before actually dipping the balloons into the mixture. Some times it will be full of tiny little air bubbles which spoil the look. How long they keep mainly depends on environmental conditions as humidity can make them go soft. If made with several layers of dipping they should last quite a while. Store in a cool dry place.
I’m sure with a little practise you’ll be able to master the technique. There are lots of tutorials and guides online, here’s a particulary good one which you may find helpful:

I know lots of people use perspex bowls or small clear Christmas baubles. So I guess if all fails this an alternative way of making your snow globe. 🙂
Thanks madeitwithlove . I had bookmarked that very page. 😀
