Figurines

I love making my own figurines for my cake , but sometimes the tend to start falling after a couple of minutes , how do you properly position them on the cake and do you transport them on the cake when taking then to the event. I have event this weekend and not sure if I’m going to put figurines in now or later. Any suggestions on traveling with cakes and properly putting figurines so the won’t fall

Hello Kimmebearable

There is a whole section on making and displaying models here:
http://www.cakeflix.com/online-cake-decorating-course-category/models
Each tutorial shows a different technique. Some models include aramatures which help with standing and positioning. I make simple models. Some include pasta and others lolly pop sticks to help them stand up. The ones which do not contain a support I just stick down with either tempered chocolate or with royal icing.
Allow plenty of time for the models to dry so they don’t start drooping when stood up. Models can be made up months in advance and stored in card board boxes until required. Please don’t store them in plastic airtight containers. Plastic and airtight containers makes the gumpaste to sweat so the models never dry through properly.

Depending on how big a model is, I also use a cool spray which helps set figures into place very quickly. It can be bought online from chocolate works suppliers or cake decorating stores like this:
http://www.surbitonart.co.uk/acatalog/DECO-GL–Plus-SPRAY–1litre–cannot-be-sent-by-air-mail—-1140.html

A similar product called SPRAY ICE can be bought from http://www.thecakedecoratingcompany.co.uk/
The product will be loaded onto their website this afternoon so it can be viewed. They can take orders via their chat box if the product is still not available for viewing on the site.
Cake decorating company offer better postal charges if you wanted to purchase the product from them.

Hope this helps.
