Fondant sausages for Morag

Hello, I’m hoping to attempt the gorgeous Morag cake but I’m wondering if there is a quicker way to roll the fondant? I’m quite slow so rolling all those sausages by hand would take me forever :-/ could this be done with an extruder? Or is by hand the best way? Thank you 🙂 x

Hi Harry79

You’ll be surprised how quickly the strands will roll out using two smoothers as Paul is doing. However, if you still feel this would take too long, you could use an extruder with the largest hole disc for the underneath layers of the mane and add some hand made ones for the top layer. Making the lower layers with the extruder will fill up the colour more quickly and the hand made layer will give it the fulness. Try a little on some parchment paper to see how it looks. 🙂 x ………………….. or …………..

do a few strands at a time over a couple of days with the smoothers. Keep them covered up with a large plastic bag to stop them going hard. This way you won’t be over whelmed making them all at once.

My extruder hates me & pops its hat off whenever I use it so I think by hand is probably going to be better – I’ll be brave!! Thank you ? x

I have four extruders and I hate them all! All that expense for nothing. Well done for braving the sausage rolling! 🙂 x
