Is it food safe to stick a card cutout onto the side of an iced cake?

I can’t see why not as long as it is plain and can’t leach out print or colour onto the cake. You could also place the cutout on a separate piece of sugar paste as backing so that the card does not come into direct contact with the cake. Just an idea.
