Can we paint black with black wilton gel colour ?

I don’t see why it can’t be used, perhaps give it a double coat to ensure depth of colour. I do find Wilton black tends to go a bit grey. Try it on a scrap piece of icing the same colour as you’ll be painting it on and if you’re happy with how it turns out you’ll be good to go!

Thanks..how about using black fondant instead or will it look bulgy and not at par ????

And one more question how you paint gel colours on such big area mixed with vodka/ lemon extract only?

I use vodka, just a small amount so as not to over dilute the colour. Lemon extract must be pure extract and not food flavouring. I don’t use it for painting as it can leave quite a bitter taste, also some people can develop an allergic reaction on their lips. Vodka has no taste, the alcohol just evaporates and dries very quickly. Fondant as you have correctly said will be bulky and heavy, it will also take a while to dry. If you roll it out very thinly it may work Just have a go on a small area and see how it looks. I wouldn’t stick it down at this stage in case you don’t like how it looks. The fondant should come off fairly easily if you keep it dry.

Hi there
I recently did a Ferrari style cake (red) and I used red fondant icing to cover the cake, then sprayed with the clear shimmer spray to give it a polished look. Had to give it a couple of coats but it turned out well.

I used my wilton black gel with lemon extract it did gave nice gloss but it took really long to dry and wheels were little slimy to touch? And i need not even give second coat…so using vodka instead of lemon extract would have been better?

So pleased you got the car done. Yes it’s possible that the vodka would have dried quicker, it also depends on the quality of the lemon extract, some are better than others.
