Ganaching a hexogan cake
Hello
I’m baking a 14″ hexogan cake this week. I have never ganached this shape before, do you think it would be easier to pour the ganache while it is still in ‘liquid’ form over the cake and let it set or perhaps apply it on when it is a soft set consistency?
Any help would be appreciated!
Many Thanks..
Do you think Paul could do a lesson on ganaching different shaped cakes in the future? 🙂

Hello madeitwithlove,
Thank you for replying so quickly. I think you are right, i will apply the ganache as if I was doing a square cake. Paul’s tutorials are the best , I wont go anywhere else, that’s why I joined! It’s a real pleasure to be taught from the best and also to say that he has such a lovely team of people that are so helpful.
Many thanks
Julia
Hello welshmaid
Covering a hexagonal cake with ganache is similar to doing a square cake with a few more corners. You could pour the ganache on if you like, however to be able to get that lovely sharp finish which is shown in Paul’s tutorials, it is best to apply the ganache as shown. Use the same principle as ganaching a square cake when turning each corner of the hexagon and for when removing the excess at the top with the hot knife to achieve the sharp edges.
If you’d like to see Paul do tutorials on different shaped cakes, pop an email to the site with your request. I do believe Paul has a member request list. Hope this helps. Good luck with your hexagon.
