Giant cupcakes
Hi,
I recently made a giant cupcake but it formed a realy hard crust on the outside.
Do people carve the outside to remove this?

Hi KookiesKakery,
I am not a professional baker but love making cakes. I always trim any crust on cakes so it ensures that you have a smoother feeling when you bite into your sponge cake. I have seen it many time before where people do this. I guess it all depends on you if your hapy to leave it or not. Any rough edges will be covered with icing.
Hi
I’ve made a few giant cupcakes, and I’ve only needed to cut off the very outer edge rim from top and bottom. I do this with a pair of scissors, as I don’t want to cut too much off, and spoil the shape. Obviously, if there’s a large dome, you’d need to remove a bit of this too. Maybe it’s the recipe, or been too long in the oven, oh and I also put a steel flower nail in both halves, before adding the cake mixture, to help the middle cook evenly.
I’ve only used a silicon mould.
