Gluten free Toffee Cake

I have just baked a cake with Doves Farm Gluten Free plain flour. The cake has baked fine but the flavour is not great it definitely tastes of a potato or vegetable flavour not sweet at all. The receipe I used always works fine with gluten based flours. Can anyone help?

I found this recipe http://thankheavens.com.au/2013/09/23/failsafe-toffee-cake/#more-2409 which doesn’t state whether a different flour other than gluten free has been used. Unfortunately it is in cup measures. Here http://www.cakeflix.com/questions/gluten-free you’ll find a GF sponge recipe from one of our members. You can see other comments if you put in the search box ‘gluten free cake’.
If you look here http://www.cakeflix.com/questions/toffee-cake there are comments and recipes for non gluten free toffee cake which perhaps could be adapted using your Doves Farm. I have lots of GF cook books not one with toffee cake! Sorry can’t be more help, I hope you find a recipe to suit.

I think it may have been the oil I used. I had ran out of the usual one I use and replaced it with another I think this may have affected the flavour
