Gooey cake boards

Hello Cake Lovers. Am doing a double figure number cake next week and I want to cover the board in advance. Usually I do not cover my boards in advance as I have been told the cake might go gooey when placed on a board that is covered with fondant. I always cover the sides of the board with fondant and not where I placed the cake. However, I will find covering the double figure cake board difficult if the board is not covered first but I don’t want this cake to go gooey as I will be making it a couple of days in advance. Please can someone tell me how long it takes for the cakes to start going gooey underneath a fondant covered board. Many thanks in advance.

Hi NikNak42

If you allow the decorated board to dry for several days so the icing becomes really hard that will reduce the likelyhood of the board becoming gooey. Other than that you could place the cake on an undecorated board and ice around it. There’s a really good video in youtube which shows how to do it. Google ‘how to decorate a numbered cake’ and it’s the first video that comes up. There are other number cake related answers on this site, to see them type in the search box ‘number cakes’.
If you haven’t used the search facility since the launche of the new site, to open the search box click on the white magnifying glass, type in your search and hit enter on your keyboard. Hope this helps. x

Dear Madeitwithlove thank you so much I will cover the board well in advance . That is very helpful. I do like the design of this new site however, I have find it difficult to search for questions. I can never find what am looking for. I will keep playing around with it until I get use to it. Ohh before I forget I tried looking for you at the last cake international show but was told you you were teaching or something when I came to the stand. It will be nice to put a face to the name and I just wanted to say a big thank you for always being very helpful on the site. Am sure I will meet you soon. Do take care and many thanks as always. xxx

You will soon be able to navigate the new site NikNak. I don’t think it is quite finished yet but I tink when all is done it will be a lot better. If you have any problems at all with finding things on the site please just post, don’t struggle.
I’m also sorry to have missed you at the show. I’m not sure who told you I was teaching but the information is incorrect. I don’t teach at all, I was wandering around the show with my hubby who was pushing me in my wheelchair. Next time you come we will have to make a definite arrangement to meet.
I hope your number cake and board turn out really well, good luck with decorating. xxx
