Welcome to the Cake Decorators Q&A
gravity defying wine bottle pouring cake
I recently saw a lovely picture of a cake ,which had a wine glass on and a small wine bottle pouring red wine into the glass. The wine glass was suspended above the cake.
I wondered if any members had ever made such a cake and does anyone know where |I can find a tutorial on how to do this? I have searched online with no luck!

Hello Tomandhen 123
Do you know who made the cake ?
There are loads of gravity defying cake tutorials but not one with a suspended wine glass. It would help to be able to see a picture of it.
sorry, meant the bottle was suspended above the cake pouring wine into the glass. It was a member from Craftsy. I have seen a tutorial by Lauren kitchens gravity defying cake courses for a waffle cake but not this one.
That makes it much easier because you can use a small plastic picnic wine glass for the wine to pour into and make the bottle with gumpaste by moulding it on a real bottle. If you want to make the glass the same way it can be done.
If you use a small wine bottle and cover it with cling film the gumpaste can be moulded on to it. Use the following tutorial to make your bottle but roll it out really thin so it’s nice and light:

For a really good gravity defying structure have a look here:

The glass can be built around the bottom of the straight rod. Use the tutorial to build the pouring wine. The are lots of how to’s online for colouring gumpaste bottles to give them a realistic look. Google ‘how to colour a gumpaste wine bottle’ and you’ll see how it’s done. Let me know if this helps and if you need more information.
Hi, thank you, the tutorial has helped a lot! The problem Iv’e got is how I would make a hole in the stem of the wine glass for the rod to go through? Sorry if its a silly question. Thank you for your help.
I thought perhaps the plastic glass could be drilled all the way through but that won’t be possible as it will shatter. You could make a glass in two halves in the same way as the bottle and build it around the rod. I’ve been searching for a glass tutorial which I saw online but can’t find!! I wish I had saved it. I’ll keep looking and post when I’ve found it. If you search in google ‘how to make a gumpaste wine glass’ it’s possible you may come across it too.
Hi! I have made a wine pour cake about a year ago now. I think I spent about six months trying to work out how to do that darn glass! LoL. I the end I used plastic
picnic wine glasses and melted a hole into the stem (it was a 2 part glass) and bottom of the glass. I also made the bottle with gumpaste that I draped over a chocolate bottle mould.
What did you use to melt the hole?
I used a small soldering iron……the type they use for electronics… I think it cost about $10.. Just make sure you melt it Outside….because it does not smell good and can’t be good for you!. I suggest making a few backups because things will always go wrong if you don’t!.
Thank you for your help
No problem. Happy to help. If you have any other questions just ask! Good luck!
Hello Tomandhen123
I was just wondering how you got on with your wine bottle. Since you posted your question I went back to Craftsy to take a look at that project. I’ve noticed that the lady who created it has left some instructions about the acrilic tubing she used through the stem of the glass to secure it. The additional information may be of help to you. x
Hi, I haven’t made the cake yet. I was just interested in having a go as maybe a dummy cake, to see how I got on. Yes, the additional information would be useful, how can I find it?
It’s here:

You can also message the creator of the cake and ask for more details. She seems really nice and helpful. The additional information is in the comments. I hope you find them helpful.
