Hello Alicain

How much do you want to downsize the cake by? Paul started with a 10″ square cake which he cut down to 6″ and used a layer of the cake to build up the height. Please let me know what size cake you want to build the cow from so it can be cut down in proportion and also to get a better idea for the other ingredients.
The cow can be built directly on the board, it doesn’t have to be standing, it can be a sitting down cow!
If you just want to eyeball everything, the cake size can be scaled down to what ever size you would like here:

Let me know how I can best help you.

Hi Alicain

You’ll need to cut your 8″ square cake down to 8 x 5 ” to get the same proportions as Paul for the cow. The piece that you cut off will be the part which gives the cake it’s height. Make ganache enough for an 8″ cake or a little more, same for the sugarpaste for the fur. All the othe ingredients can be estimated as you go along because it will be more clear how much you’ll need once you have the cow constructed. I think Hamish would look great sitting down on the grass with little flowers all around him. Have a look at some google images of sitting highland cattle to get a feel of Hamish would look. The most important thing is to get the proportions of the cow right.
