handbag cake and handles

HI
I am going to use the idea of the handbag cake but make it into a pandora gift bag. I was wondering about the handles. what is better to use, fondant, sugarpaste or gumpaste? I used sugarpaste to try and do a handle for a paint tin cake but it broke once it hardened, ( i didn’t use flower wire as didn’t think about it at the time). Also I was thinking about having the handles hanging down at the side but was wondering would this be heavy? I don’t want them dropping and breaking the cake ( am doing a sponge cake). Hope someone can help

Hi, I’ve just finished making gift bag cakes. I used flower paste/gum paste to make the handles which hung down but to give a bit of support I glued mine to the bag as mine were made using pearls which were a little on the heavy side.
