Heating cores
Hi There,
I will attempt the pirate cake soon and have seen in some blogs that many use Heating cores for a square cake 12″. Do I need them with Paul’s moist chocolate cake?

Hi vandou74
I use three or four upturned metal Royal icing nails and they work for me. I’ve never used the big Wilton heating core so don’t really know how that would work, it does leave a hole in the middle which would need to be plugged up using the cake which rises inside the core. The corners of square cakes need protecting because they bake far faster than the centre which is very deep. I always double or triple line the sides to prevent corners burning and have the paper two inches above the rim of the tin. I can’t give a definite answer and hope other members will be able to help.
Thank you so much for your reply. I will try it!
