Help arranging cut out lettering neatly.

Can anyone advise me, please, on a technique to place cut out letters neatly in line on a cake?

I have been asked to make a celebration cake and it will need a message. As I don’t often decorate my cakes except at Christmas, I will cover my sponge with fondant and use cut out shapes stuck down with a little water.

I have practiced cutting out the letters and placed them on the upturned cake tin to get an idea of placement but I am having difficulty aligning them.

Thank you for your help

Thank you, madeitwithlove. This was very useful particular the advice about marking position with a toothpick. I will make a practice cake for the family next week!

Hi wombat

Take a peek here: http://cake-decorating.lovetoknow.com/fondant-letters
It’s really good and explains how to measure and plot the letters so they are balanced.
Alternatively just play around with them so they look balanced.

Hope this helps.

I’m so pleased this has helped. I know what it feels like when the letters don’t look right. I always envy how other people just have an eye for it. Good luck with your practice cake next week! x
