Help needed for making a helicopter cake

Hi all,

I have agreed to take on the task of a helicopter cake, I’d like to do a 3d one and I thought rather naively that I could adapt Paul’s spitfire cake but looking at it it’s nothing like. I feel I may have to take the easier root and make a sugar paste helicopter to sit on top of a cake, but I thought I’d ask if anyone has attempted one and could give me a bit of guidance of what to do or where to start. Hope you can help. Stressed from Lichfield! x

Hi Bronnie

Don’t be stressed from Litchfield have a look at this http://rosesen.wordpress.com/2011/12/01/helicopter-cake/, it might give you a little guidance. Your cake make not turn out exactly like this one but at least you’ll have some idea how to get started. I do hope it helps. Smile now! x

Hi madeitwithlove

Just thought I never thanked you for helping me with this. I must admit I chickened out at the 11th hour and chose to model a helicopter out of sugar paste/petal paste rather than carve a cake. My friend was happy with the result which is the main thing. x

Alls well that ends well, I know what you mean about chickening out, I’ve done it soo many times. I can do it all in my head, but the reality is something quite different! x
