Hi,

How many slices would you be able to get out of the horse head cake? I was asked to bake it for the birthday of 2 girls who celebrate it together. They still have to give me an actual number of guests, but I would like to know in advance if this cake will be enough.

It depends on how big you want the slices to be. Paul has used 2 x 8″ sponge cakes which without carving would yield 64 (2″ x 1″ pieces). The cakes has lost a fair amount of pieces because of the carving. I would guessimate around 40 (2″x1″ slices. )
However, to get a better approximation/ estimate of how many slices it;s likely to yield, download the templates and put them together. With pencil and ruler divide the image up into 2″ x1″ grid and count up how many full size piece it divides into. There will be some smaller side pieces which could still be used. If you want more yield you’d need to scale up the templates and sub the 8″ cakes for bigger cakes.
