How to feed a fruit cake?
Hello I’m making a fruit cake and would like to know how I feed it? Should it be soaked right through? How long is it recommended to feed a fruit cake. I really need to know the whole process as I don’t know. Many thanks x

It depends what you’re using as feed. If you’re using alcohol make tiny holes on the surface of the cake and gently pour a table spoon or two every two weeks. Turn the cake on the next feed to allow an even distribution of feed. If you’re maturing the cake for three months, stop feeding about two weeks before decorating to ensure that it isn’t wet. Non alcoholic cakes can be wrapped up without feeding and left to mature. There are some recommendations to feed with fruit juice but I would be wary as juice does not have the same preservative qualities as alcohol. Hi Made with love, when you say turn the cake do you mean turn it over?
Yes, turn it over so that you’re not feeding the same side all the time, it just makes for an even distribution of liquid going into the cake. Sorry didn’t make that clearer in my first answer. x
