how to keep sugar paste fresh once opened?

hi there, need to colour a large amount of sugar paste to cover a cake.
would like to colour it the night before.
how can i keep it fresh and stop it fom cracking and crumbling.

Wrap it up in cling film first making sure there is no air trapped in small pockets and then place it a plastic food bag or air tight container. Re knead the next day and use. Fondant icing shouldn’t be stored in the fridge. Hope this helps.
