How to make a hammock for baby shower cake
I have a baby shower cake that has a jungle theme. I will be making fondant palm trees and want to make a hammock between the trees where a fondant molded baby will be placed. I would like the hammock to have a lace look and not sure if I can use it to attach to a tree and be sturdy to hold the baby.
Any suggestions are appreciated.

Hi Swimbley
If you have cake lace, it can be piped to create a mesh for the hammock. Cake lace remains flexible unlike other modelling mediums. However, you would need to pipe out a few and overlay them once dry in order to reinforce the material. This will be necessary to take the weight of the model baby. Here’s a little tutorial on making the cake lace and guide to piping:

Have a look at real hammock to see how it is finished off at both ends with the ties. I am assuming you already know how to make the trees strong enough to take the weight of the hammock and model.
If you don’t like the idea of making piped lace, an alternative method is to buy a non edible hammock cake topper.
Hope suggestions help. Please come back if you need more information. 🙂
