Huge Thanks to lots of Folks and any really nice moist sponge cake I could flavour for carving other than Pauls Chocolate

Just finished my version of the Tank Cake, following Pauls tutorial, but couldn’t do without the Ask a Question Forum and especially Madewithlove as lots of questions asked by other people we given helpful information by you and others which in turn helped me, such as how to save my Ganache, and Ganache quantities.. I find I can read and read peoples questions and learn so much by the Answers.

Thank to Paul too and his team, the tutorials and not without witty humour. This was my second cake I have done outside of my own children, I am not a professional and class my self as an early beginner. My first cake was a trainer shoe for a friends 50th based around Nike just 2 weeks ago and I used Pauls Chocolate Cake as I find lots of cake very dry and I like tasty cakes, this is the one I will always use now. I have attempted to do a Red Velvet Cake and adapted a Lindys Cake but it is for me very dry again would anyone have a very tasty basic carving cake that holds up to Carving and Icing and also a cake that will be fine just for a flowered topped cake. I don’t charge for these cakes only for the ingredients. And have now a profound respect for bakers and cake decorators very time consuming if your are pedantic.

So thanks again

Hi Sugarandspice66

Congratulations on completing the Tank cake! I’m soo excited for you! And thank your for your kind words. Q & A is a great place for learning, and your experiences will be invaluable to other members. What are you going to attempt next? Paul’s tutorials are addictive and as you’ve said, some not without witty humour which makes learning even more fun! I always want to start a fresh project as soon I finished one. Alas not possible to do that, like you I don’t charge for my cakes either and ingredients money doesn’t always cover little extras which are not charge out.
For an easy tasty carving cake try this one http://www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/10860/easy-vanilla-cake
I use it a lot because it saves me making a proper madeira but keeps just as well. I know through reading Q & A quite a few members have rated it very well. There’s a zingy lemon version as well which you’ll see in the Jane Hornby wedding collection. I’ve never made red velvet cake so can’t recommend a recipe but I’m sure members who have will be able to.
Happy baking and decorating and keep up the good work. x
