Welcome to the Cake Decorators Q&A
Mickey Mouse cake copyright?
Hi. I have been asked to make a 3D Mickey Mouse cake, and in my quest to research this I have just been reading that unless permission is obtained from Disney then they can come after you on grounds of copyright. I’ve looked at many people pics of Mickey Mouse cakes on google images (including Pauls on FB too) and am wondering where I would stand on this if I went ahead, as it seems many people are making them?
Does anyone have any advice about this?
Thanks in advance, Jay

Hi jayzeil69
Hot topic this which plagues everyone in the cake industry. Long and the short of it is you’d have to contact Disney as they own the copyright and ask for permission. I’ve been reading different forums which suggest this can take a long time and is expensive. There are companies which can get licences on behalf of third parties, I’ll keep searching and if I find anything I’ll post. Meanwhile I hope other members can help out. You could also contact [email protected] and see whether he can shed some light. x
Thanks MIWL, you always come through with an answer, don’t know how you find time to bake too, lol
Will try Andy as you suggest…..the order is for mid August so I don’t have long.
I’d have thought with all the money Disney make they’d be happy that people want birthday cakes made of their characters, but there we go 😀
Hi Jay
I’ve found this https://www.disneyconsumerproducts.com/Home/display.jsp?contentId=dcp_home_help_help_become_licensee_en I hope you can understand it as the address won’t paste properly. May be worth sending them an email and ask how to get permission to use their images. I agree with you, you’d think they’d be happy to have their products promoted, heyho go figure! I hope it does help. xx
