Mis-placed cake

Hi,

Having “glued” my iced cake to the board with ganache (which has now set) I have realised I should have placed it further back on the board so that I can add the decorations. Is there any way I can move it without causing too much damage? I wondered if a hot knife would do the trick?
thanks

Hi Lyn

Did you have the cake on a cake card before you stuck it down? If you did, you should be able to tease the card up with the tip of a warm pointed knife and then slide a hot palette knife under the whole card to release it. I’ve done it loads of times with very little damage to the cake. Release the card from what will be the back of the cake.
Hope this helps, good luck with it!
