Welcome to the Cake Decorators Q&A
Opening a new business on the 31st of this month, but?
I’m a little worried as I’ve done everything I need to I think, but seem to be getting no interest from my facebook page or my webpage and I’m still waiting for the council to show up to check my kitchen. Even after ringing the council 7 times I only get that they will pass the messages on, but still no visit or communication from the local environmental department, I did receive a letter saying the business was now registard and would hear from them, but that was back on the 9th september and 7 phone calls later still nothing. So I’m worried about even starting because they’ve not been to check my kitchen.
I’ve done some cakes for freinds and familly and they say it’s all great and they’ve even said so on my facebook page and have now 300+ likes, but apart from one order on the 9th november it’s all dead. And I’m worried if this is how it’s going to be. Any tips idea’s would be greatfully received as I’ve even given out business cards at my first stall I did last month and will do the same at the two events in november. I’m just a little scared that I’ve come all this way for it all to flop.

Hi Codebreaker
Here’s a lovely idea for a launching party http://www.cakeflix.com/questions/best-cupcake-topping-recipe
It can help to get you known and could open doors for some immediate orders.
As for the council, it may prove more effective if you see them face to face and get a definite answer.
I think you need to get out. And get known there are markets and wedding shows you may need to make cakes for show.offervparties on Facebook. with a theme provide cake and sweets and table settings.take photos.you may need to spend money to get results.I do cupcake market stalls and advertise my cakes and parties.do cup cake decorating parties.teach decorating markets are a good start.and reasonably cheap.sorry but relying on Facebook takes time
Thanks for the replies,
One of my big worries was having the counsel come round and check my kitchen, as this is a new venture I didn’t know were to start. So I’ve spent the last month reading up on everything. Glad to say the guy from our local counsel came today and marked our kitchen as a 4 and thats only because we didn’t have a seperate hand washing basin, so I’m very happy with that. I’ve been advertising on facebook and now have a shopping website sorted. Also business cards and I have 3 craft fairs in november and I got signage put on our berlingo yesturday for advertising and contacts and so on. So I’m now a legal business and hope that the business will slowly take off. It’s still not sunk in that I have my own business, so very excited. And thanks to Paul and this wonderful site which I have learned so much from.
