Hi denice

Powder paints seem to always dry powdery. You could try and spray your fruits with a little glaze to set the colour. Another way of painting on marizipan is mixing powder colours in melted coco butter which doesn’t go powdery. The marizipan has to be left overnight to crust over, the colours are mixed with the melted coco butter and used like paint. Squires Kitchen sell packet of coco butter and instructions on how to use it. This is their link http://www.squires-shop.com/uk/product/sk-cocoa-butter-bag-100g. Might be worth having a quick look. I don’t know whether airbrushing them would work. I make marizipan fruits and veg but I don’t paint, just dust them by graduating and deepening the colour on dry marizipan. Sometimes I use a little glaze made up with gum Arabic if pieces like apples or oranges need a shiny finish. Sorry can’t help more. x
