Hi I am making a 3d body and head Peppa Pig cake, however I am terribly unsure as to how best to do the snout without the risk of it breaking off when covering with sugarpaste and in general. Has anyone made this kind of cake before and what would you recommend??

Hi Sammy, why don’t you just get the general shape of the pig , cover it with icing and make an external fondant snout in the same way as Paul has done with the teddy cake. If you did it that way, you won’t have the worry of breaking a cake snout. What do you think, any good?

I would add it on with sugar paste as well  like with the bear.

Hi Sammy, I felt I had to get back to for your Peppa Pig conundrum. I don’t think my original idea will work. I’ve had a look at drawings of the pig on waynetully.hubpages.com/hub/How-Peppa-Pig. It might be a good if you take a look at this as it shows clearly how Peppa should be drawn/constructed. I don’t know how you can include the legs without first sitting the main body on a platform (have a look at the friendly dragon tutorial, which could be adapted more simply for your cake). I feel confident that you could carve the face as a whole which would then have to be doweled into the body and the icing the whole thing. Perhaps I’m making this more complex then it should be, however, that is how I would do it. Make a drawing of the face and use it as the template for carving it and then add in the detail with fondant. The main body looks straight forward, but you would have to think about the legs. Oh dear I rambling on! Do you think any of this will help?
