rice krispie cake for santas belly

Hi, Love the Santa tutorial and making it for the family this xmas, could I use RKC for the underbelly instead of tinfoil or would it be too heavy and collapse? Merry Christmas!

Hi Winnie

Personally I would stick to the way Paul has done it. Unfortunately RKTs have a habit of cracking and separating if they are not well compacted. It’s possible the weight would pull and collapse the structure. If the krispies do separate they can tear through the sugarpaste. I experienced this first hand from a dinosaur I made last year. Remaking it cost me time and ingredients. I’ve made smaller models using RKT with great success. I had a quick look through some of Paul’s other standing tutorials to see whether he has used RKT but I think he uses mainly sugarpaste for legs and under carriage work. Take a peek at things like the friendly dragon, 3D Bunny cake and Hamish the highland cow. Perhaps other members can comment on their experiences.
Merry Christmas to you too! x

You’re welcome Winnie. I think Paul would have said in the tutorial if RKTs could be used. He only mentioned sugarpaste and modelling chocolate, both of which would work out jolly expensive for a feature which will not be eaten. I’ve seen RKTs used for big models on some of the American sites, some of the models are life size humans. I’ve no idea how they make it all stick so hard!
Good luck with your cake, I’m sure it will be perfect. I know Paul would love to see your creation on his facebook! x
