Does anyone know how best to decorate a ‘sandcastle’ shaped cake so that it looks as though it is covered in sand

Hi lyndaplatts
You can see here http://www.cakeflix.com/online-cake-decorating-courses/beach-hut-cake how Paul made sand. If you don’t want to use sugar grind some rice krispies or cornflakes and add gold lustre to give a shimmering sand effect. I assuming that you’re going to cover the cake in sand coloured fondant so you only need a small amount of ‘sand’ just to sprinkle over. Grind a small amount first to see what the texture looks like. x
Thank you so much for taking the time to answer! Especially as you were the only one! Kind regards, Lynda
You’re welcome Lynda. I have the beach scene cake to do soon so I’ll experiment with toasted dessicated coconut. I know it will be too coarse so I’ll grind it and roll it around in gold lustre to see how it looks. I hope you managed to make your ‘sand’. x
