soft cake toppers and flowers!!

Hey, Im making my own wedding cake at the moment, Im following your chocolate cake recipe. I have made my bride and groom out of regal icing and ready to roll icing but they are soft and flop easily, is there a better product I can use. Im new at this!!!!I have made a few cakes before and different characters and they have been fine. Im not sure whether is just the heat at the moment that is making everything soft!

Hello caroloconnor

Cake toppers are best made from gum paste or flower paste as these mediums set harder. Sugar paste on it’s own takes long time to dry so adding either gum tragacanth, tylose or CMC powder will help to strengthen the icing. The heat and humidity certainly prevents quick drying. If you look here http://www.cakeflix.com/questions/clarke-baxter there are a couple of recipes to make gum paste/flower paste. It would help if you allow several days for your toppers to dry. If you need more information please post again.

Sorry, you can also buy ready made modelling pastes if you look here http://www.cakeflix.com/shop/product-category/decoration-presentation/modelling/ you’ll see the different ones available.
