Hi
I clicked the link for information on the squishy penguin cake but it only brought me back to my own question, only posted a couple of mins ago.
I f anyone has any ideas on how on how to go about making this type of cake, please let me know.
Many thanks
Hi bellscakes
I’ve made a search for this cake but can’t find anything. I would suggest using a squishy penguin toy template to carve the cake. The are lots of free templates online. I’ve found some cute ones on Pinterest.

On the CakeFlix tutorials, Rose Macefield has a skating penguin which could serve as a guide for carving but using your own template.
You don’t need to texture the penguin cake, just make it as close to the template cuteness. Please let me know if this helps. 🙂
Many thanks madeitwithlove I’ll let you know how it goes.
Hope you’re well. xx
I look forward to hearing back from you. I meant to say earlier, once you’ve carved the cake out, you could put in a couple of indents into the cake so when you dress it with the icing it would look like squishes. If you feel you’d like to do that, use the side of your hand along your little finger, or with the bone tool. Don’t go too deep, or just leave it without.
Best wishes 🙂
Thanks very much for your help madeitwithlove.
Your idea of the indents sounds good.
The type of shape I’m looking for is an oval that’s slightly squared, though it’s mostly oval. I’d like the penguin to be lying down on the cake board with it’s face facing up, looking at the viewer, if that makes sense. I’ve got 6inch half sphere cake tins so maybe I could use one of those and carve out an oval type shape from the cake. But I need to have at least 12 portions of cake so that might not be big enough. Alternatively, would baking say a 10inch round cake be best and cutting out an oval shape then trying to build a bit of height with spare cake to form the penguin’s back. The mind boggles! Phew! Many thanks. xx
Have a look at Paul’s tutorial for the corgi dog. It might help how to make the head as if it is looking at the viewer.
If you’re able to carve the body from a cake large enough to give you the portions, the head could be made with Rice Krispie treats. I hope you’ve managed to find a template.🙂
Hi again
Thanks I’ll take a look at that. The Krispie treats as a head is potentially a good idea and will keep in mind.
Unfortunately I’ve not yet found a suitable template but the search goes on. If I can’t find one then I’ll likely have to resort to making a standing penguin to resemble the squishy penguin pillow as much as possible. Thanks again.

Hi bellscakes
I’ll keep searching for you. How soon do you need it for? 🙂
Hi Madeitwithlove
Thanks so very much for all your help, as ever, you’re an absolute star!
Ultimately I decided to buy a large hemisphere cake tin yesterday, to make the penguin cake. I just felt it would make life easier. I have 3 photos of the squishy and will copy those. I’d say 2/3 of the pillow is coloured grey finished off by black icing to mark out it’s head and eyes, white for the face, black for it’s sleepy eyes and finally a yellow beak. The more I studied the photos of the squishy penguin from different angles I began to realise that from the back it was more of an oval shape, not a squared oval, if there’s such a thing! I don’t know where I got that from! I was thinking that I could possibly trim the cake to make it to look more like an oval. Then again, maybe not! I’ll make two back feet as in the photo, a couple of flippers and some flowers to place on it’s head. The cake is for my Grandaughter. Thanks very much once again. I’ll let you know how it goes. Have a good evening.
Alls well that ends well. Good luck, I’m sure everything will turn out just fine. Happy birthday to your granddaughter, lucky little girl to have such a clever grandma!

Hi madeitwithlove
Thanks very much! My granddaughter was really delighted with the cake. It took literally hours to decorate though as I put grey sugar paste on 3/4 of the cake then black for it’s head finally white for it’s face. I butted the colours against each other, which I didn’t find very easy as the joins were quite untidy. But I managed to disguise the untidy areas with some sugar paste flowers! Phew, It was a marathon. There must have been an easier way to do all this, Nevertheless, it was all worth it in the end. Thanks
again for all your help.
