Stacking with fresh flowers

Hi all I know this is probably a very simple question but having never done it I have no idea and can’t find anything useful online! Please could someone give me a step by step guide to stacking/ tiering 3 or 4 cakes so there is enough gap in between to add fresh flowers? How are the flowers held in place? I have in mind I would like 2 rows of roses between each cake.

Also, I’m considering using 4″ depth cake tins, would this look ok and do you think all made from fruit (heavy cake) would withstand this type of stacking?

Many thanks in advance!

You can use a polystyrene dummy between layers in which you can add the fresh flowers

Hi natalie_kingsmill

This tutorial will help:

Instead of using the boards as Paul has done it is possible to use half depth dummies to raise your cakes. The height will leave space for placing the flowers as you want.
Normally you’d need to wash the flowers and dry them throughly and then trim the stem off and wrap them in foil to prevent any sapping. When I use fresh flowers I wrap wet cotton wool round each stem before wrapping in the foil. This helps to prevent the flowers from wilting. Keep them in a cool dry place to keep them fresh and arrange them around the cake as close to the required time as possible.

Edit:
Fruit cakes are sturdy enough to withstand stacking, however for your own peace of mind I would recommend dowelling each tier.
