Standing T-Rex cake
Help! I’ve been asked by my brother to make him and his fiance a standing T-Rex cake for their wedding!!! (Dont ask). Any one made one before? My main concern is how it will stand, where to put dowels etc etc.

Hi,
Could you not take some ideas from the online course The Friendly Dragon. Paul shows how to make and could be adapted and used maybe as the top of the cake.
It will be interesting to read all the other ideas.

Hi Sammyj747
As jackie advices, the dragon cake tutorial is good to take ideas from. This http://www.soyouthinkyourecrafty.com/2012/07/t-rex-cake-tutorial-2/ will help you achieve the head and face which I think is the most difficult part. I made a comic T – Rex out of rice krispie treats and covered with fondant. I made a large cone for the body, made the tail as in the dragon tutorial, the neck I molded on 4 long plastic dowels ( the longest you can get) which I stuck together with ganache and staked through at the front end of the body. The head of the T is very small in relation to it’s body, have a look at some pictures and use the link tutorial to achieve the features. It is important to have the dowels from the neck to protrude so the head can be placed on as well. The legs are easy, just make chicken drum leg shapes for the back, squash the fat end and stick on to the body. The front legs or arms are short skinny things. The ridges on the body can be achieved by pinching out the krispie treats to make bumps in the body. The claws and teeth are the same as in the dragon tutorial.
I wish I could show you mine, he was sooo funny, I gave him monsterous buck teeth and a massive smile! I would definitely recommend a comic version unless you’re really artistic and can make the true image. Hope some of this helps.
