Sugarveil need help!
Hi guys, I have been asked to do some wedding cupcakes July witch are in need of sugar veil being used on them.
I have never used or even heard of this item until yesterday.
I am struggling to find out what size packet/tub I am going to need for 30 cupcakes to be decorated? Does any1 have and ideas. It doesn’t say how much you get out of I pack/tub but was hoping some1 on here may have used it before and have some idea.
Thanx kellie :-)))

Hi kellie, I haven’t used sugarveil yet but bought all the kit at Cake International a couple of months ago. I’m not sure how far one packet of the sugar veil goes – do you have the sugarveil mats to make the lace or are you using it for piping work?
One thing I did learn from the lady demonstrating at Cake International was that once you have mixed your sugarveil, leave it in an airtight container in the fridge overnight. The next day, give it a stir and then use it on your sugarveil mat. It doesn’t actually say that on the packet (I think it says to use it straight away) but the lady had much experience with sugarveil so I would trust her advice. Hope that helps in some small way, I’ve been meaning to have a go at sugarveil since i bought it so I’ll update you if I get round to it 🙂
Thanks for your angelface, no as of yet I haven’t go the mat. I was trying to figure out whether o buy the mat and do I myself or by the per made stuff. It seems to be awfully expensive either way I do it bu I didn’t want to buy lots of the sugar veil icing if I didn’t need it. Thanks again for your help. 🙂
I have used it, I got it from cake international too! 1 pack does make quite a lot and it was more difficult than it looks to get a consistant finish. Although it says it stays pliable for some time I found it did go quite brittle after a few days even keeping it in a ziplock bag. Having said that I would use it again if the cake design need delicate lace and I was going to use it straight away.
Hi
Try cake lace by Claire bowman, at the cake decorating company, it’s just like sugar veil, except it keeps pliable for months, you would need a mat, but you can buy a smaller one, which would be fine for cupcakes. The icing needs 24hrs in the fridge, before use, not just overnight. Once on you mat, can be put in a very low oven for 15mins or so, let cool, and it’s perfect lace.
I saw buddy in cake boss try to get the sugsrveil off the mat and he ended up putting it in a low oven for 15 mins with sucess
