Welcome to the Cake Decorators Q&A
Teddy bear cake: Can this be made without sugarpaste?
Can the teddy bear cake be made with piped white chocolate buttercream directly on top of a crumb coat of the same? Or will it just slide off? Or should I use while chocolate ganache alone as the crumb coat?
Any advice appreciated – it’s for a children’s party and from previous experience, the sugarpaste tends to get peeled off and thrown aside.

Hi PS
The idea of the sugarpaste is to hold the teddy structure together, particularly the head and legs. I think it would be better to use a strong white ganache for the crumb coat rather white chocolate buttercream. Although the BC sets it remains too soft to make a sturdy base. It really needs to set hard to prevent any movement in the joints and head. If it helps the ganache chart is here http://www.cakeflix.com/blog/how-to-ganache-cakes-without-gnashing-your-teeth

You could use royal icing piped with a star nozzle
