Does anyone know how long the teddy bear cake keeps after it has been piped and where is the best place to store it. 🙂

Hi Morrisonbry

It depends which cake recipe you used. A madeira cake will keep fresh for about 2 weeks kept in a cool room.
Paul’s moist chocolate cake recipe has a shelf life of 5 days but it will keep almost double that, again in a cool room. Sponge cake will stale after about 3 days. Once the teddy is piped it can’t be kept in the fridge because of the fondant dressing under the piping which will start softening from the moisture in the fridge. The best way to store it is in a card board box in a cool room. Most cake boxes are not tall enough for the height of the bear but you can extend the sides of the box to give height so the lid can still be placed. Here is link for cake box extensions http://www.cakecraftshop.co.uk/shop/3/584/ or you could make your own, that’s what I do for tall cakes. Hope this helps.

I should have added that you will have to take into consideration the butter cream frosting which will need to be kept cool. The shelf life time I’ve indicated is for cake only. In a cool room butter can be left out for several days, since buttercream is more sugar than butter it should be alright for several days without becoming rancid.
