Hello Baker06

I don’t know the diameter of the teddy, just the height. I guess you could say it’s the size of a real small teddy.
You can scale it down by baking a smaller cake. To scale down the ingredients use either if these two tools

Paul used 8 x 10 inch cake tin which can be scaled down to make a smaller teddy.

Hi Baker06
I made the teddy bear last week and it stood 8inches tall and at the widest part of the body, before the arms went on, it measured approximately 6inchs or so. I added and extra body part on to it and also an extra half head as I felt it would be too short otherwise. It turned out really very well indeed and tasted delicious. Good luck x

Bellscakes what you used for icing..standard buttercream or something else? Could you advice me on that too and can I skip adding fondant over ganache?

Hi Baker06
I used the standard butter icing recipe of 1kg icing sugar and 500gr of unsalted butter and added some dark brown icing colour to it. To try to achieve the fudge type consistency I used some condensed milk, as advised by madeitwithlove, and some cocoa to deepen the colour. The condensed milk was straight from the tin, not caramalised. I probably only used around 3 tablespoons or so of the consensed milk until I considered it to be of fudgy consistency. I think I used about 2-3 tablespoons of seived cocoa. I then, to be on safe side, added some seived royal icing powder to ensure that the icing wouldn’t flop once piped. It turned out very well but I had too much so I put remainder in the freezer for another cake. As for missing out the sugarpaste I’m not sure, as it does hold it all together beautifully and was easy to put on just taking time. But I just looked at an old recipe book for 3d teddy cake and it has only piped buttercream on it. But it is made up of baked swiss rolls which may be lighter in density that perhaps a toffee or madeira cake. By the way I used half Wrights toffee cake mix and half their madeira mix not out of choice, that’s all the supermarket had at the time. But cake carved very well. Good luck! x

I want to make this for a friend birthday, I purchased ball pan and wondering if that will work as well ?

It should be fine with the ball pans. You will need to do a bit of shaping, not too much. I used two different sized pudding basins, it was so easy and yet made such a big impact.
