Unicorn Cake

HI

I would like to make a unicorn cake and wonder if anyone would be able to recommend a good online tutorial please? I can’t find a unicorn tutorial here on Paul’s website.

Many thanks in advance.

Hi bellescakes

Are you looking for a 3D (horse type) or one of those lovely rainbow unicorns? If it ‘s just the cake with the colourful flowers and twisty golden horn you’ll find lots of them on youtube. I have found several by googling:
https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=how+to+make+a+unicorn+cake&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&client=firefox-b&gfe_rd=cr&dcr=0&ei=_fTTWffgH43EXp3nLQ
Look in google images for 3D unicorns and unicorn cakes. There are some gorgeous toppers and a few 3D cakes too. I’ve tried to set the link but it is soooo big that it takes up half the page. Hope you find some of the information useful. I’ll keep looking.

Nice to see you posting again, haven’t heard from you in a long while 🙂

Hi madeitwithlove

I hope you are keeping well. Thanks very much for the links. I haven’t had any cakes to make for a while hence the absence of questions. But I will be making up for lost time. LOL.
I’d like to make a plain round cake iced filled, crumb coated and finished with sugar paste and then decorated with all the coloured swirls as seen on so many google images. I see that so many of the unicorn type cakes on YouTube are covered and decorated with buttercream swirls/roses etc.. The only problem is that I will have to make the cake and have it decorated by the Saturday or Sunday at the latest. It will then will have to be transported and remain uncut for around 6 days or so hence the reason I think sugar paste would be best, keeping it fresher for longer. Now for the decorations, would buttercream piped decorations, roses/swirls actually remain intact on the sugar paste? Or would it be best to make flower paste decorations? It would be quicker and easier, I hope, to do the buttercream embellishments. What do you think would be best under the circumstances please? Your help would as ever be really appreciated. xx
