Would using a boxed cake mix work for making a cake and covering it in fondant? If not would made from scratch work better?

Hi ChrissieMoose13
Personally made from scratch is the only way for best tasting cakes. However, lots of people use cake mixes and find them absolutely marvellous. I wish I could use them, they’d save lots of time and money! There are many ways of making cake mixes taste more like scratch cakes and also to make them more durable for enrobing with sugarpaste and decorations.

Also google ‘how to doctor box cake mixes’. If you want to use cake mixes instead of baking from scratch, there are many mixes available for the professional baker. You’ll need to google for ‘professional cake mix suppliers’.
