Is it possible to make lid out of cake and display this way? Or I have to make it from cake drum only?

Yes he did said that we could make it in cake but is it possible to keep it similarly or lil more flat?

You could make one 2″ sandwich cake layer, slice it in half and fill so it is just a very shallow cake. If that layer is still too deep trimm off a little more until you’re happy with the height. Keep the flat side of the layer on top, this will give a smooth surface for the ganache and icing. Place on a cake card and decorate as shown in the tutorial. Use an old cake drum to decorate on, it will make it easier for icing the cake and trimming off the excess icing. Hope I’ve understood correctly.
