Welcome to the Cake Decorators Q&A
Whisky Themed Cake
Can anyone help with some ideas!
I’ve got a whisky themed cake going out next week and they have requested a 10″ round cake, which would produce a height of about 9cm. I’ve kinda got the sides of the cake sorted but could do with some ideas of what to do on the top! I’ve created a whisky bottle from rice krispie treats which they want coming out of the top of the cake, but I’m at a loss of what else to do – any ideas?! I think just the bottle sitting on top of the cake will look a bit dull.
Also, does anyone know whether you can air brush white chocolate ganache? I’ve done wood effect plaques to place around the sides of the cake but as the cake’s vanilla I can’t do a dark chocolate ganache crumb coat but need a dark base for the plaques to allow for any gaps.
Thanks in advance for any ideas received. I’m having sleepness nights with this one as I don’t know where to go with it.

Hi Liz
Would love to know how you finish off. I know it will help other members who are doing similar cakes. Good luck with it!
Hi lizabbis
How about making the bottle look as though it is exploding out of the cake. For exploding ideas peek here:
For extra interest what about some fake or Isomalt ice cubes, whiskey tumblers or shot glasses spewing out of the explosion along with the bottle. Have a look at the links here for suppliers of miniature pub props:
Modelling chocolate can be airbrushed with oil based colours. Water based colours will cause beading and the colour does come off. However, it can be used in small amounts. My advice would be to make a trial effort before committing to the real thing. I use dindydoodle airbrush colours for chocolate but I’m sure there are lots of other makes too. Please let me know if any of this helps or if you need any more information. 🙂
Thank you so much for all your help/advice. Greatly appreciated and I think I now know what direction to go with the cake.
Regards
Liz
