Sugarcraft meets glassblowing in a beautiful tribute to an incredible artist. The world-renowned Dale Chiluly turned 75 on the 20th September and 35 sugarcraft artists from around the world have decided to celebrate his birthday in style with an amazing collaboration!
A little about Dale Chihuly:
Dale was born in Washington and was exposed to working with glass when he joined the University of Washington in Seattle to study interior design. He later decided to drop out and headed to Florence to study art but was soon back to complete his studies. In a weaving class he took in 1963, he incorporated glass shards into tapestries, ultimately receiving an award for his work.
His experimentation with glassblowing began in 1965 and by the next year, he had received a scholarship to attend the University of Wisconsin-Madison where the first glass program in the US was established.
He continued his studies and attained a Master of Science degree in sculpture and a Master of Fine Arts. His travels to Europe were very influential in shaping his skills but he ultimately returned to the US to cofound the Pilchuck Glass School. His work is referred to and admired throughout the world!

We don’t know about you, but we’d certainly struggle to bring ourselves to dig into them even though they look so tempting!
