Vegan cake and a cup of coffee?
Major coffee shop chain Starbucks has introduced it’s first ever vegan cake options to its menu this week. Several of the popular franchise’s stores in South Florida introduced both vegan and gluten-free cake options to their menu thanks to a partnership with Bunnie Cakes.
Marian Cortez, who owns Bunnie Cakes – a vegan bakery based in California – believes that although these options have only been introduced to a select few stores at the moment, this is a move in the right direction for vegan cake enthusiasts.
Speaking to Latest Vegan News, the entrepreneur said:
. “This proves to me that we are changing the way we see things, the way we eat,”
“Years ago I couldn’t find a vegan cake for my son in Miami. Today, we are partnering with one the biggest business[es] in the US.”
Ortiz has claimed that the introduction of the vegan treats, which are also 100% gluten-free has been a great move by Starbucks. With the business owner stating that two of the locations where the cakes were introduced had sold out their stock before noon.
Speaking about the introduction of Starbuck’s new options, the Executive Director of proclaimed animal rights organisation COK (Compassion Over Killing) stated that Starbucks had done the right thing by introducing vegan options after the group started a campaign online alongside news anchor Jane Velez-Mitchell.
“Starbucks is responding as thousands join COK and Jane Velez-Mitchell in asking for more vegan foods,” COK Executive Director Erica Meier said.
“By brewing up more nationwide vegan options, Starbucks has the opportunity to put these foods at the fingertips of a soaring consumer market.”
Starbucks is currently testing the vegan and gluten-free desserts out before they decided to introduce them to their stores worldwide.
