Watch Paul make the Go-kart cake in just one minute!
Highlights
Some hand-picked highlights from the whole course in one 8 minute video!
1. Constructing the stand
Before we begin making the cake, we have to first build a stand! In this lesson, Paul shows you how to design the stand and glue it all together.
2. Carving & ganaching
In this lesson, Paul uses a cardboard template to carve out the shape of the kart into two separate layers from one giant slab of cake!
3. Making the wheels
Paul chooses to make the wheels from polystyrene however they can be made from rice krispie treats and ganache. When making the wheels, it’s best to use trex rather than glue to prevent the sugarpaste from sticking when it is peeled away to reveal the blue strip.
4. Covering the cake
The best way to cover the cake is by using one large piece of paste rather than covering in panels. Remember to place the sugarpaste by hand over the centre dowel, then quickly work the paste into the awkward areas before smoothing down.
5. Decorating the kart
The key thing here is to make sure the decorations are done very neatly as this can hide any imperfections from covering the cake.
6. Decorating the board
In this lesson, Paul airbrushes the board in a cool disco themed pattern then carefully with some assistance, places the cake onto the board.
7. Decorating the kart pt 2
In this lesson, Paul shows you how to make various decorations such as the seat, steering wheel and thrusters!
8. Making the body
To make the body, Paul uses an internal structure made up of wires, dowels and polystyrene. Oh and don’t forget the sugarpaste!
9. Adding the steering wheel
In this quick lesson, Paul adds the steering wheel then shows you how to attach the arms and hands.
10. Making the head
In this lesson you will learn how to carve a simple head shape using polystyrene and then how to cover and add cartoon style facial features such as nose, eyes and mouth.
11. Making the hair
Paul shows you a simple technique to making long flowing hair.
12. Adding the wheels
Time for some finishing touches! Paul has to make some minor changes to cake in order to fit the wheels on, then gives the cake a shine using glaze.
13. Other Ideas
In this lesson, Paul shares some other ideas for your own designs.
14. Pro Lesson
The pro lesson is all about pricing and selling your cakes.
