Tutorial Preview
1. Lesson 1 - Assembling the board
Jeanette starts by talking us through all the various parts she has and why she uses particular one’s to give the strongest possible structure.
2. Making the board food safe
Jeanette now makes the board food safe using some great products that keep things very quick, simple and clean.
3. Adding the cake to the board
Jeanette now gets the cake ready for the board by cutting out little circular holes and applying ganache in between each layer. She then takes away the sharp edges in preparation for ganaching the whole cake.
4. Ganaching the cake
Here Jeanette moves onto covering the entire cake in two layers of ganache putting in the fridge to cool off in between each layer. She then smooths it all off with an acetate smoothers and gets to making the edges nice and rounded with a small palette knife.
5. Adding the body
Jeanette now adds the torso using a sort of homemade candy clay which works beautifully. She shares the recipe in this lesson and demonstrates just how fantastic it is to model with.
6. Covering the head
Jeanette now covers the head in a lovely flesh coloured sugarpaste which is a mixture of renshaws flesh tone and some white sugarpaste.
7. Covering the body
Here Jeanette covers the board using a nice no fuss technique that keeps things neat and tidy.
8. Adding detail to the body
In this lesson, Jeanette shows us cute ways to add detail to the body by adding feet, legs and a lovely green knitted jumper.
9. Adding the lab coat
Jeanette now adds a cute lab coat using a mixture of sugarpaste and flower paste which is rolled out thinly and then cut to size.
10. Adding the arms and hands
Here Jeanette adds the scientists hand and arms with the right hand holding a cute little test tube.
11. Adding the hair
Jeanette shows us how to add his hair and she does by first of all creating stripes of sugarpaste which she cuts into using a dresden tool and then adds to the head with a little water. She layers them until a full head of hair takes shape.
12. Adding the ears and hair
In this lesson, Jeanette shows us how to make cute and simple little ears which she places lower down on the head to give it a cute feel. She then goes on to add waves of hair which gives the scientist a nice crazy look.
13. Finishing the hair/adding facial features
Jeanette now finishes off our scientist’s hair and adds his facial features.
14. Finishing touches
Jeanette now applies the finishing touches and voila it’s done!
