1. Making the stand
Using mdf wood Paul creates a solid stand for the cake. Cake drums can be used, but they won’t be as sturdy. This stand can be used for a multitude of designs.
2. Stacking and ganaching the cake
Paul now stacks the cake and carves to shape before adding a generous layer of ganache. Paul then spends time smoothly the ganache in preparation for the sugarpaste.
3. Carving out the facial features
It is now time to create the indents for the eyes and mouth, which will be added later after the cake has been covered.
4. Covering the cake
Paul now covers the cake, making sure to smooth into the indents for the facial features. It is an awkward shape to cover, so watch Paul’s technique to get a smooth finish.
5. Adding the feet
Mrs Strawberry needs to get her wedding shoes on so Paul now adds her feet and shoes. But before that, Paul texturises the covered cake to give the strawberry indent look.
6. Adding the hands
Time now to give Mrs Strawberry some character by adding the hands.
7. Painting Mrs Strawberry
The character really comes to life when the painting starts.
8. Adding the facial features
Paul now adds the eyes, eye lashes and mouth. If you struggle to see the close up of the eye features then use the image below as a reference.
9. Adding all the finishing touches
Paul now adds all the amazing finishing touches to really bring the design to life.
